Day 7 - What's This All About?
Today is Day 7 of my AdvoCare 24 Day Challenge. Tomorrow, will be the official 1 week mark. I thought it would be good to review why I am doing this and what it is about. Sometimes, I forget the point of why I am blogging and just talk about the nachos and skittles and red wine that I have to say no to. Don't get me wrong, saying no has quite a bit to do with it. I mean it is a challenge, but there are so many other really good things. So, here we go.
Who am I?
I am just a lady that loves coffee and delicious food (good for you and bad for you) and wine and candy and Diet Coke. I am a Mom and a wife. I work and I am pretty much on the run all of the time with one or 2 of my 3 children (my husband coaches my oldest, so he is on a man to man defense, while I play zone with the other 2). My goal at the end of the day, is to have the right kid at the right place for the right sport on the right night. Period.
Why did I choose to accept the 24 Day Challenge?
There really are many reasons. To begin with, I have said yes to delicious food (good and bad) and drinks FAR more than I have said no to them, in the last 6 months. I had a GREAT time doing it, but felt like I needed a little bit (or a lot) of a nutrition tune up. I eat healthy 75% of the time, but tend to balance a healthy meal with chocolate or my face in a bag of candy corn. I can't help it, I love sugar. I also love a glass or two of red wine or possibly a nice hoppy iPA from time to time and any old time.
My other vice is that I love to run. I know that this sounds like it would solve the above issues and balance everything out, right? No. I run quite a bit and instead of this making me waif-like or perhaps slight of frame, it just makes me plain old hungry. Also, once I run, then I feel like it is ok to indulge. I eat to run and run to eat, basically. So, I maintain, but was creeping into the maintain + a few extra lbs, uncomfortable zone. What I want to get worked out in these 24 days, is relying on nutrition + exercise to feel good, not be dependent on exercise to make up for what I lack in nutrition.
The other reason, is that my very good friend Liz Blom is an AdvoCare Independent distributor and sometimes we just like to do fun stuff together. Like 24 Day Challenges and then talk about it on blogs. Why not, right? It keeps me honest and on track, so that is good.
Ok, so enough about me.
What is the AdvoCare 24 Day Challenge?
I hate to be lazy, but AdvoCare does such a nice job explaining what it is, why would I try and rewrite it? So, straight from the website to my blog -
The 24-Day Challenge is a comprehensive supplementation and nutrition program designed to give your body the jumpstart it needs to help you reach your goals. There's something for everyone – whether you are looking for weight management, energy, overall body composition or overall wellness."
This is me talking again (hey, over here)...
There are two phases during the 24 days.
Phase 1 is the Cleanse Phase, which is 10 days. I am on Day 7.
Phase 2 is the Max Phase and is the last 14 days. I know you figured that out already.
Again, the website really does such a great job of explaining, so straight from the website again...
Phase 1 - Cleanse Phase - Prepare your body for optimal nutrition
On Days 1-10 of the 24-Day Challenge, you will take three products.
These products, in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise, help to rid your body of waste and prepare your body to better absorb nutrients.* This isn't the kind of cleanse where you drastically reduce calories or consume only liquids - this is the beginning of a healthier lifestyle!*
Hi, it is me again - About 5 years ago, a few of my friends did this challenge for the 1st time. I kept hearing about the fiber drink that you have to chug. It got quite a bit of hype in our Mom circles. It is not so bad. You definitely have to drink it quickly. I actually sort of like it. During this phase, I drink it first thing in the morning (it is sort of like pulpy orange juice in texture), along with a pro-biotic packet. During dinner, I take some Omegas. Right before bed, I take herbal cleanse caplets.
Also, during the cleanse phase, I eat whole foods, and cut out things like alcohol, fried foods, white starches, pop, etc. For the most part, if you can't wash it, don't eat it. Someone said that once and I thought it was very clever, but it isn't EXACTLY true. I can still eat carbs in whole wheat form and things like almond butter. You can actually eat anything you want, but for optimal results, it is recommended that you eliminate or reduce your in take of some of the obvious players. You know, the ones you hate to love.
So, anyway, I am about to enter Phase 2 in a few days. This is where is gets fun. You start to incorporate vitamins into the day. Mix that in with eating healthy and there are days that you feel so good, you could explode (no kidding). In fact, I was thinking back to the last time I did the challenge and remember feeling like I was going to explode with happiness - (http://thechallengeof24days.blogspot.com/2011/03/day-6-walking-on-sunshine.html).
Phase 2 - Max Phase - Fuel your body for maximum results
After completing the Cleanse Phase, it’s time to move into days 11-24: The Max Phase. The Max Phase is about fueling your body in order to achieve maximum results. During this phase you will take three products that work together to provide you with sustained energy, appetite control, core nutrition and overall wellness.* Upon completion of the 24-Day Challenge, these products can continue to be taken every day as part of a healthy lifestyle.
So, there you go. Who I am? Why I am doing this? What this whole challenge is all about? Now, on to Day 8! Wahoo!
